What Will the 2021 Song of the Summer Be?
The 2020 song of the summer was “Old Town Road,” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. And now it looks like the next big hit could come out of New Orleans. In February, rapper Young Thug announced his upcoming album Beautiful Thugger Girls, which is expected to drop sometime in June. On Wednesday, he shared the tracklisting for the project, revealing that there are three songs about women. One of those songs is called “Hot Girl Summer.”
The song features guest vocals from American singer/songwriter Halsey, who co-wrote the track. She had good things to say about the song, calling it “angsty” and “hot.”
Young Thug wrote the lyrics over a beat produced by London producer Murda Beatz, known for producing hits for artists such as Drake, Kanye West, Rihanna, Jay Z, Beyoncé and Future. He told Complex that the song isn’t meant to be taken seriously. “I don’t think I’m trying to make a serious statement,” he said. “I just want people to listen to my music and enjoy it.”
In addition to “Hot Girl Summer,” the album includes another song titled “Angry Birds,” which features Migos member Quavo and Travis Scott.
And finally, there’s “Beautiful Thugger Girls,” which features R&B singer Kehlani. The song is described as being “about love and relationships.”
