Jubin Nautiyal
Nautiyal is best known for his work as lead vocalist in the band Euphoria. He joined the group in 2005, replacing founding member Shashwat Sachdeva. In 2007 he left the band to pursue a solo career. His debut album titled “The Journey Of A Soul” was released in 2009. In 2012 he collaborated with composer duo Vishal-Shekhar to record a song called “Aye Na Yeh”.
In 2013, he sang the national anthem at the Indian Premier League cricket match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. He performed the same role again in 2016 during IPL matches involving Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab.
He has sung many songs including “Chaiyya Chaiyya”, “Mere Dil Mein Hai” and “Tumse Milke Raha Hoon”. He has also done playback singing for films like “Kaun Kitne Paas Gale Laga Ke”, “Ekk Deewana Tha”, “Main Aurr Mrs Khanna” and “Bajirao Mastani”.
His latest release is a single called “Rangreza” featuring singer Priya Saraiya.
Early life
Jubin Nautiyal, son of former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and Congress leader Ram Sharan Nautiyaal, was born on 14 June 1990 in Dehradun. His father, a businessman and politician, is a member of the Indian National Congress party and his mother, Neenu Nautiyal, runs her own business. He grew up in Dehradun and attended St. Joseph’s Academy. In 2009, he graduated from St. Joseph’s College, Dehradun, where he had been studying since 2000.
Nautiyal began playing guitar at the age of 4, following his father’s passion for singing. At school, he excelled in academics and won several awards. He played violin and piano and sang in church choir. After completing his high school studies, he enrolled in Welham Boys’ School to continue his education. While there, he took up music as a subject and formed a band called “The Band”.
In 2005, he joined the University of Delhi, where he majored in Economics. During his college days, he performed in many stage plays, including a musical based on Mahatma Gandhi. He later transferred to IIT Kharagpur, where he completed his graduation in 2011.
He moved to Mumbai and worked as a marketing executive at Wipro Technologies, while simultaneously pursuing a course in Marketing Management at FMS International Business School.
During his tenure at Wipro, he received the Young Achiever Award for outstanding performance in sales and customer satisfaction.
After working for three months at Wipro, Nautiyal left the company and returned to India. He subsequently worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company.
Career
Nautiyal, whose real name is Surya Narayanan, began singing professionally at age seven. His father, a classical singer, introduced him to Carnatic music. At age 11, he moved to Mumbai to pursue further studies in vocal music. He attended the National School Of Music, New Delhi, India and later graduated from the same institution in 2012.
He had been part of the popular musical reality TV show since 2010. After three seasons, he was eliminated during the fourth season. He returned in Season 5 and finished second behind winner Mandeep Singh.
In 2011, he participated in the televised singing competition where he went up in ranks and eventually became one of the top 25 contestants. He placed 13th out of 50 contestants.
In 2013, he won the grand prize of Rs.50 lakhs in the reality show. This earned him a spot in the final round of the talent hunt. He performed “Aye mere watan ke logon se”, composed by Anand Raj Anand, in front of judges Amit Trivedi, Shalmali Kholgade and Vishal Dadlani. He sang it again in the semi-finals of the show. He was declared the runner-up of the show.
After completing college, he signed with Sony Music Entertainment India. He released his debut single “Ek Mulakath” on 15 October 2014. On 16 December 2014, he released his debut album titled.
His next release was the single “Tere Bina”. The song was written by Prasoon Joshi and produced by Tanishk Bagchi. The music video features actor Arjun Kapoor. The song was originally sung by Arijit Singh.
On 4 September 2016, Nautiyal released his second studio album titled. The album consists of eight tracks including the singles “Mujhe Meri Kahaniyan”, “Kuch To Log Kahenge” and “Jhoom Jhoom Mein Teri Yaad Na Hoga”.
