Post Malone
• Post Malone (/ˈpoʊst mɑːl/; born 23 May 1996) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer signed to Republic Records. He began his career releasing music independently under the stage name Skrillex, signing to Interscope Records in 2017. His debut studio album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, was released in 2018.
Malone rose to prominence in 2013 following the release of his single “White Iverson”, which peaked at number one on Billboard Hot 100 chart and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song. He later collaborated with Lil Wayne on the track “Psycho” and gained further success with singles such as “Rockstar,” “Better Now” and “Sunflower”.
In 2016, he became the first artist to simultaneously hold the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100, with four songs each: “Congratulations”, “Wow.”, “rockstar”, and “Better Now”. Malone won the MTV Video Music Award for Artist of the Year in 2018.
He performed at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in February 2020.
Early life
Malone grew up in a musical household. His mother played piano, and his father sang along to her. He learned how to play guitar around age 12, and soon started writing songs.
In high school, Malone took lessons in classical piano, jazz theory, and songwriting. By 15, he was playing gigs at local venues such as the Roxy Theater in West Hollywood and the Viper Room in Los Angeles. At 17, he joined the indie pop group, whose members included singer/songwriter. After recording several demo tracks, the band signed with Columbia Records in 2010. Their debut album,, was released later that year.
Career
In 2011, Malone began posting songs online under the pseudonym Post Malone. He uploaded his debut song “Circles,” which features vocals from rapper Yo Gotti, to SoundCloud in August 2012. In 2013, Malone signed a record deal with Republic Records and changed his stage name to Post Malone. On October 3, 2017, Post Malone announced that he had left Republic, and signed with Warner Bros. Records.
On November 25, 2018, it was revealed that Post Malone had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
2017–2019: Beerbongs & Bentleys and Hollywood’s Bleeding
In November 2017, Malone revealed the name of his upcoming fourth studio album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, and stated that it was scheduled to come out sometime in early 2018. He had previously hinted at the release date during interviews with Rolling Stone and Complex. However, in January 2018, he told Billboard that the album would actually drop in late June or July, while he was touring North America. As of April 2018, the album still hasn’t been officially released.
On February 20, 2018, the rapper premiered a new single titled “Psycho”, featuring American singer Ty Dolla $ign. The track was produced by longtime collaborator DJ Mustard and features guest vocals from Ty Dolla $ign. The song was released on February 23, and debuted at number one on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and Canada Hot 100 charts, becoming Malone’s second number-one hit in the United States. The song also reached the top five on the UK Singles Chart and Australia ARIA Charts, and became Malone’s highest-charting single since 2013’s “We Made It”.
Malone broke Michael Jackson’s 34 year old record for most weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart with Stoney reaching its seventh week on the chart, surpassing the previous mark held by (1983).
The album earned Malone four nominations at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, Best Music Video and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
