Pooh Shiesty

Pooh Shiesty grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He got into rap music at an early age. At 14 he dropped out of school and began rapping full time. His debut single “I’m On My Way”, featuring fellow rapper Lil Baby, was released in October 2017. In 2018 he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records.

He has been praised for his unique style of storytelling and lyrics, and has received comparisons to artists such as Eminem, Kanye West, Drake, Future and Kendrick Lamar.

In December 2018 his second single “Worth It” was released.

Early life and education

Shiesty was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1987. His father left his mother when he was young, and she raised him alone. She worked three jobs, including one at FedEx.He attended Pflugerville High School in Texas for two years, where he played football and basketball. After returning home to Memphis, he enrolled at Memphis University School, where he graduated in 2005.

After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve, serving as a combat engineer. While serving, he completed basic training at Camp Pendleton, California; infantry training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and advanced individual training at Camp Roberts, California.

Upon completing boot camp, he served as a rifleman with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During his tour of duty, he received several medals for valor, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.

Following his discharge from the Marines in 2008, he earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Jackson State Community College. In 2009, he enrolled at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he studied international relations and political science. He graduated in 2012.

While attending college, he played defensive end for the SIU Edwardsville Cougars football team. He was named second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Following graduation, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he began working as a security guard at a local Walmart store.

In 2013, he moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he worked as a night shift janitor at a hotel. He later became friends with a coworker named Chris Taylor, who invited him to move into his apartment complex. There, he met his future wife, Amanda, whom he married in July 2016. They live together in San Antonio.

Career

– In January 2012, Shiesty uploaded a YouTube video titled “Aint Gonna Lie”, where he rapped about his life growing up and how it affected him. He went on to upload another video called “The Beginning”, where he discussed his early beginnings in rap.

– His first song, “Hell Night”, was produced by Young Chop and features fellow Atlanta rappers Big30 and Lil Reese. It was released on March 15, and the music video was released on February 19, 2020.

– Two weeks later, he released “Shiesty Summer”, which was produced by DJ Mustard. A week later, the music video for the song premiered on BET Her.

– On May 17, he released the single, “At It Again”.

– On July 9, he released the single and music video, “Main Slime”.

– Three days later, he released “Still Remember”, which features Gucci Mane.

– On September 27, he released the single titled “I’m Not Sorry”.

2020–present: Shiesty Season

Shiesty began releasing songs in early 2020. He had signed a record deal with Epic Records in late 2018, after being discovered by producer DJ Mustard. In June 2019, it was announced that Shiesty would be joining the label. His first release under Epic Records was “Lights Out”. On July 17, 2019, Shiesty released his second EP, titled Back in Blood, via Def Jam Recordings; it debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart. On October 14, 2019, it was reported that Shiesty had been dropped from Epic Records. However, later that month, it was revealed that Shiesty had re-signed to Epic Records.

On December 31, 2019, Shiestya released the single “Back In Blood”, featuring Chicago rapper, Lil Durk. It became his most streamed song, and was soon followed by the official music video on February 3, 2020. On January 8, 2020, Shiestya was featured on fellow label mate Foogiano’s single, “First Day in L.A.”, which was released on November 20, 2020. On January 15, 2020, Shiesta released the single “GuardUp”.

In April 2020, Shiesty collaborated with American singer Drake on the track “No More Sorrow”, off of Drake’s upcoming album Scorpion.
